Another ruling, another team bumped from the playoffs.
In an ongoing trend throughout the country this year, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association reversed its field this week and now its No. 32 team in the football field is bounced.
Riverdale (Jefferson, La.) likely wasn't going to do much damage in the playoffs, but nevertheless, it would have liked to take a snap before being ousted.
On Sunday, according to
Nola.com, the LHSAA's football committee declared second-year school
Lakeshore (Mandeville) was ineligible for the postseason because the school was a conditional member, which meant it had to wait two years before it could compete in any sport.
But after meeting with Lakeshore school officials, including the team's football coach Larry Route, the LHSAA's executive committee ruled that Lakeshore had been admitted into the association two days before the probationary restriction had passed.
That means, not only is Lakeshore's football team in the playoffs, but so is its girls volleyball team.
Lakeshore's football team (5-5) likely won't last long. It plays at
St. Thomas More-Lafayette, 9-1 and ranked eighth in the state, on Friday. St. Thomas More's original opponent
Archbishop Shaw (Marrero) now plays
Neville (Monroe).
