After a pleasant six hour drive across Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas, I had finally arrived at my destination, Topeka, Kansas. I was there to award the Highland Park Scots on their Kansas State Championship title and first undefeated season in school history.
First thing was first however, as Mr. Wallings and I ventured over to the Taco Mexicana just a few short blocks from Highland Park High School. There we found to our overwhelming joy, Coca-Cola straight from the bottle and steak burritos the size of the Rio Grande. After our mucho satisfying siesta, Mr. Wallings and I made our way back to Highland Park, where we would be yet again blown away.
The Highland Park gymnasium was a rocking. Three television stations had come out to the event to witness what would be a grand affair. The cheerleaders and band were present and set the stage as each player was announced to a student body and community in full support. MaxPreps representative, Randy Wallings, was called to the podium and announced all of the season's accomplishments and statistical domination tallied that season by the Scots basketball team.
Randy introduced Colonel John Trafton and Sergeant Justinn Doby from the Kansas Army National Guard to do the honors. They presented the team captains with the MaxPreps National Rankings Trophy to the delight of the crowd. In a surprise move, point guard Lamont Austin, was left speechless after he was awarded the T-Mobile Player of the Year Trophy. Lamont displayed outstanding heart throughout the year and led the defensive effort with over three steals a game.
Thank you Highland Park for a first class award ceremony. You were the team to beat this year and you surpassed all expectations to make history. Congratulations and I hope to see you again next year!
The Ambassador,
Peter J. De Rogatis
