LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Ra'Keta Shelton of
Dougherty (Albany, Ga.) High School in Albany, Ga., has been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week for games stretching from September 23-29.
Shelton batted a blistering .917 for the week (11-for-12) while reaching base in 13 of her 14 total plate appearances. She scored 10 runs, walked twice, blasted two doubles, two triples and four HR's and registered 14 RBIs over just four match-ups. The senior third baseman/catcher's finest effort came during a doubleheader sweep of Webster County (Ga.) as Shelton was a combined 6-for-6 at the dish with seven runs scored, two doubles, two triples, two HR's and 10 RBIs.
For the year she is hitting at a .608 clip with 28 tallies, seven doubles, six triples, seven HR's and 40 RBIs.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week's award.
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week will be announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions. During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
