First football, then the following year basketball was added, and a few years later girls' volleyball joined the group. Now it's time to honor those well-deserving girls' soccer teams nationwide.
The inaugural MaxPreps Girls' Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard kicked off at Ridgeland High School in Ridgeland, Mississippi. The Ridgeland Titans finished ranked 18th in the nation in the MaxPreps Freeman rankings after a 22-2-2 record. Head Coach Craig Winship led the Lady Titans to a 5A state championship and his team was honored on Tuesday, April 2nd during a pep rally in the school gymnasium.
In front of a crowded gym, MaxPreps representative Tonya Grey began the ceremony by boasting about the Lady Titans outstanding on-field accomplishments. Tonya then turned the trophy presentation over to Mississippi Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Mark Rowe. SSG Rowe spoke very highly of the girl's season and how proud the school and community should be of their team. SSG Rowe then called Coach Winship to the stage and presented him with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Coach Winship received the hardware with great enthusiasm and then thanked everyone in the community for their support throughout the season and during their state championship run. The ceremony finished once Coach Winship and a few players performed interviews to the local media.
Ridgeland High School was a well-deserving school to honor and really set the tone for the beginning of the Girls' Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. Congratulations to the Lady Titans and best wishes next season!
