The Woodlands claimed regional championships to earn berths to the state volleyball tournament. Cypress Woods defeated Clear Lake 21-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-9 to claim the Class 5A Region III championship while The Woodlands beat state power Austin Westlake 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24 to finish as the Class 5A Region II champions.
In Class 4A,
Brenham clinched its second consecutive state tournament berth with a 25-23, 14-25, 25-16, 25-17 win over Friendswood in the Region III-4A championship game. In Class 3A,
Columbus defeated La Grange to win the Region III-3A championship.
LOOKING AHEADThe state volleyball tournament begins today at Strahan Coliseum on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos. Four local teams will compete: The Woodlands and Cypress Woods in Class 5A, Brenham in Class 4A and Columbus in Class 3A. Cypress Woods (45-2) will meet Lewisville Hebron (42-7) at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by The Woodlands (33-12) vs. Corpus Christi King (45-3) at 7 p.m.
Brenham (36-10) will meet The Colony (43-3) in the 4A semifinals today and Columbus (35-7) will play Lucas Lovejoy (44-3) in the 3A semifinals on Friday. The tournament will be webcast on FoxSportsSouthwest.com and FoxSportsHouston.com.
