A balanced offensive attack and low-post domination sparked
Royal Palm Beach’s 63-43 win over Park Vista on Friday night.
The Wildcats’
(12-1) leaned heavily on guard Jon Octeus and forward Devonte Birdsong and the
Cobras had no answers for either. Octeus led Royal Palm Beach with 19 points
and seven rebounds while Birdsong had 15 points and nine rebounds. The duo
combined to shoot 17-of-23 from the floor.
From the opening
tip off Royal Palm Beach had everything going its way. The Wildcats opened a 15
point first half lead and never looked back. The Cobras (5-10) managed to cut
the lead to eight in the third quarter, thanks mostly to senior Jonas Elusme,
who finished with 17 points, but the damage was done in the first half.
Royal Palm Beach
forced Park Vista into 23 turnovers and held Demaris Freeman, the Cobra’s
leading scorer this season, to only 10 points.
“They were the
better team today,” Freeman said. “They played aggressive and stopped
everything we tried to do, but were going to get back our revenge next time we
play them.”
