Katy High School’s football team was honored with the national ranking trophy on the 11th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its 11th year honoring football. Close to 500 students, faculty and administration celebrated at the award ceremony with the Tigers in the school's Performance Art Center.
Katy, located in the western part of the Greater Houston Area, has been a powerhouse in Texas high school football for years. Their resume this year included a 16-0 record, 10 shutout victories and the Texas 6A Division 2 state championship. The Tigers completed their championship season ranked No. 1 nationally in the MaxPreps rankings system.
In addition to the students, teachers and school administrators in attendance, the Superintendent of Katy ISD Schools, the Athletic Director of Katy ISD, and a few school board members joined in the celebration.
Master Sergeant M.J. Laborde, Sergeant First Class Calvin Makowsky, Jr., and Sergeant Marcus Jolivet of the Texas Army National Guard greeted the coaches and players as they entered the auditorium and congratulated them on an outstanding season. As the presentation ceremony began, Principal Dr. Rick Hull welcomed everyone to the ceremony and introduced MaxPreps representative Bill Moore.
Moore recapped the team’s season accomplishments and thanked the Army National Guard for their partnership. Sergeant Marcus Jolivet followed by comparing the similar character traits a championship team and members of the Army National Guard, including team work and dedication.
Sergeant Jolivet then presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to head coach Gary Joseph and the team captains. The trophy consists of a Minuteman statue symbolizing discipline, hard work, dedication and a commitment to excellence. These are all traits the Army National Guard adheres to and they were also evident within the Katy football program.
Coach Joseph was very appreciative of receiving this prestigious award. He thanked his coaching staff, the team and the school for their support and encouragement. He also thanked MaxPreps and the Army National Guard for this memorable award and national recognition.
Congratulations to Coach Joseph and the Tigers on championship season and high national ranking!
