MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
Fall Mountain (Langdon, N.H.) Wildcats have officially been named to the 12th Annual MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its sixth year honoring girls soccer.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For soccer, only 20 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 34,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Wildcats ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
There is an enormous amount of pride beaming from the little town of Langdon, N.H. where less than a thousand people call home. Their Wildcats were dominant all season, outscoring their opponents by an average of five goals per game. The Fall Mountain defense and goaltending were a devastating force for opponents as well, putting together eight shutouts, including the
NHIAA D III state championship game against the Belmont Red Raiders.
Fall Mountain went into this game as the top seed and they knew if they took control early they would have a great chance of coming away with the victory. Sophomore Ella Stewart helped her team do just that as she broke down multiple defenders for the all important first score 13
minutes into the match. Belmont did their best to control the midfield, but Fall Mountain's back line was as stingy as the lid on a pickle jar, not allowing the Red Raiders to get anything past the goaltender despite multiple chances. The Wildcats would surprisingly only need the early goal from Stewart to hold off Belmont 1-0, and bring the state championship back to Langdon for the first time since 2009.
In order to be eligible, the team not only had to be nationally ranked, but also had to win a state championship. Beating Belmont 1-0 on Nov. 6 marked the completion of an incredible
18-0-1season — and earned Fall Mountain an invitation to the Tour of Champions. The Wildcats finished No.1 in the state, and No.130 in MaxPreps National Rankings.
These incredible season achievements have earned the Fall Mountain Wildcats an invitation to the 12th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the girls soccer team, coaching staff, students and fans on Feb. 17 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gym.
