Head coach: David Keefe
The fantastic shooting guard/forward
Carmen Giampetruzzi (16.8 points per game), now a senior, returns for the Pioneers, to be paired along with
Ryan Otis and forward
Wenjin Gabriel. They’ll have to do without Mabor Gabriel, a first-team all-state player for last year’s state champions (and Wenjin Gabriel’s older brother), but Trinity still has all the pieces to go the distance.
2. Bishop Guertin (Nashua)2012-13 finish: 16-6 (Division 1 state runner up)
Head coach: Jimmy Migneault
After overachieving last season with only four seniors, the Cardinals will have heftier expectations placed upon them following their foray into the Division 1 state championship, a 50-46 loss to Trinity. They’ll be able to count on senior
CJ Boykin and junior
Kyle Gavin, both integral players in last season’s surprise playoff run.
3. Nashua South2012-13 finish: 16-4
Head coach: Nate Mazzerolle
The Purple Panthers will go into the year without their prized point guard, Tim Preston, who transferred to a prep school before the fall. That means the powerful team that made it to the NHIAA semifinals will have to have folks like
Cam Joyal, a sixth man of sorts last season, step up.
4. Merrimack2012-13 finish: 12-6
Head coach: Tim Goodridge
Merrimack boasts the returning Gatorade State Player of the Year,
Eric Gendron, who averaged 19.7 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. The senior is a big reason why Merrimack will be a force.
5. Spaulding (Rochester)2012-13 finish: 17-4
Head coach: Tim Cronin
The Red Raiders, who made their second-straight appearance in the NHIAA state semifinals last season, suffered a depletion of talent due to graduation. They will likely rely on forward
Anthony Ciccotelli in the paint to help overcome the loss of Dominic Paradis. But they’ll face an uphill battle.
