Next A-Rod commits to Miami
Westminster Christian (Fla.) baseball star says yes to the Hurricanes before his junior season.

After posting one of the best sophomore seasons in Florida high school baseball history,
Westminster Christian (Miami, Fla.)
shortstop
David Thompson
didn’t waste any time with the recruiting process and verbally committed to the University of Miami last week.
Thompson, last season’s MaxPreps National Sophomore Baseball Player of the Year, set a new single-season Miami-Dade County record with 19 home runs last season, while leading the Warriors to two straight Florida 2A state championships. His historic home-run mark also tied the state single-season record.
Thompson has been compared to Alex Rodriguez, who also attended Westminster Christian and played shortstop.
Also a star quarterback on the football team, Thompson led his team to a second straight 2A state baseball crown.
He hit .486 last season with 10 homers, 10 doubles, two triples and 54 RBI. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder already has 29 career home runs after belting 10 as a freshman when he hit .427 with eight doubles and 30 RBI. He missed 10 games as a ninth-grader with a fractured hip.
