MaxPreps presents the state-by-state leaders in the MaxPreps Cup.
The MaxPreps Cup is a formula that attempts to determine the top high school athletic programs in the nation. Points are awarded to state champions and state runners-up based on four areas: size of state, popularity of sport, enrollment level of sport that is contested, and number of schools in the enrollment level. Points are also awarded to schools that are in the national rankings for each sport.
The top five teams for each state are listed along with their point total in the formula.
