The local track season has gotten off to an outstanding start with several standout performances at early-season meets.
Among the top performances:
Hillsborough (Tampa, Fla.) athlete Jeremiah Green, who took first in the long jump and triple jump to lead the Terriers' boys to victory in the Nash Higgins meet.
Another great performance was turned in by
Ridgewood (New Port Richey, Fla.) sprinter Karissa Bertling at the Chasco Invitational. Bertling took first in the 100-meter dash, 200, 400 and placed second in the high jump as Ridgewood's girls won the event.
Meanwhile, at the Berkeley Prep Invitational, runner Ryann McEnany led
Academy of the Holy Names (Tampa) to a team win with an outstanding performance. McEnany won the 100 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the long jump. McEnany also was the opening leg of the victorious 4x400 relay team.
The
Newsome (Lithia, Fla.) boys 4x400 relay team was among the record setters at the Charles Johnson Invitational. A.J. Dowse, Adam Mallady, Harvey Noah and Issac Baker put together a winning, event record-setting time of 3:24.68.
Another record setter at the event was Hunter Joyer of
Wesley Chapel (Fla.). A University of Florida fullback commit, Joyer is a state-champion contender in the shot put. His record-setting toss in the Johnson event went 55-feet, 2½ inches.
Another University of Florida football recruit had a standout track performance last week as well.
Nature Coast Tech (Brooksville, Fla.) sprinter Ja'Juan Story ran an impressive anchor leg to help the Sharks win the 4x400 relay event.
