When looking at the
Eaglecrest (Centennial) baseball team's surprisingly electric start,
Garrett Tisdall's numbers fly off the stat page.
The senior has started the season 5-0 on the mound with a 2.86 ERA. He's also batting .500 with four home runs and 17 RBIs for Raptors (9-0), who have climbed to No. 7 in the latest CHSAANow.com poll.
This development is particularly unforeseen considering the Raptors went 4-15 last season. But guided by the prowess of the Colorado Mesa-bound Tisdall, Eaglecrest and former longtime Thomas Jefferson coach Tory Humphrey are having a stellar spring.
Other eye-popping numbers in Class 5A include those of
Liam Eddy of
Brighton, who has started 19-for-26 at the plate with a classification-best six home runs. He's also driven in 18. Eight players are tied for second place with four round-trippers, including talented junior
Tanner O'Tremba of No. 5
Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village).
Pine Creek (Colorado Springs) first baseman
Justin Olson also has blasted four homers and continues to create a dynamic duo with junior classmate
Jay Onken (.485, two homers, 17 RBIs).
Several players are still unbeaten on the mound, including Xavier-bound
Matt Givin of top-ranked
Rock Canyon (Highlands Ranch) and Texas Christian-bound
Caleb Sloan of
Regis Jesuit (Aurora). Givin is 4-0 with an 0.34 ERA and Sloan is 3-0 with a 2.03.

is hardly considered a baseball power and it's taking awhile for the Tigers to get some notice despite a 12-2 start. But make no mistake: left-handed pitcher
Andrew Shaw is the real deal.
The senior has started 6-1 with an 0.81 ERA and is striking out nearly two batters per inning (85 in 43). He's also batting .458 with one homer and 19 RBIs.
The classification features several dominant pitchers in the early going, including
Cole Winn of
Silver Creek (Longmont). The junior is 5-0 with an 0.94 ERA and already has four double-digit strikeout performances. The
Green Mountain (Lakewood) duo of
J.D. Wadleigh and
Matthew Ramirez each is 4-0, helping fuel a 10-0 start for the No. 5 Rams. Ramirez is sporting an 0.32 ERA.
At the plate,
Alan Garcia of
Pueblo West and
Billy Cook of
Lewis-Palmer (Monument) are tied atop the homer leaderboard with five apiece.
Ryan Schneider of surprising
Cheyenne Mountain (Colorado Springs) leads the classification with 21 RBIs. The Indians (10-0) have climbed to No. 4 in the poll.
Class 3A No one in the state – regardless of classification – has had as prominent a spring at the plate as
Tyler Geddes. The
Lamar slugger is batting .561 with 29 RBIs, and he hasn't done it by spraying singles around the yard.
Geddes has ripped four doubles, five triples and four home runs to help pace a high-paced attack for the No. 2 Savages (10-1). Only
Matt Sims of
Weld Central (Keenesburg) has hit as many round-trippers amond 3-0 players.
Gunnison (8-2) has climbed into the rankings at No. 9, and pitcher
Trent Cribari is a big reason why. The senior is 5-0 with a 1.42 ERA and is batting .500 for the Cowboys. But no one in the classification has struck out as many as
Freddy Suarez of
Fort Lupton, who has whiffed 61 in 32 innings.
Class 2AKayden Seriani was the clear-cut Player of the Year candidate in 2A entering the season, and the
Paonia junior hasn't disappointed. On the mound, he's 3-0 with a 0.64 ERA. At the plate, he's batting .600 with six home runs and 19 RBIs, proving his 13 homers last season were no fluke.
This season, only
Dillon Mills of
Swink has half as many bombs as Seriani does for the top-ranked Eagles (10-0). Seriani isn't 2A's RBI leader, however, as that distinction belongs to
Leo Prosser of
Calhan (8-3). Prosser has driven in 23, one more than sophomore
Rodney Gregg has produced for No. 2
Peyton (11-0). Gregg also is 4-0 with a 1-0 ERA.
Adam Klemstein of
Clear Creek (Evergreen) also has been a beast on the mound. He's allowed two total runs in 27 innings (0.52 ERA) and has fanned 47.
Class 1ALook at the top three teams in 1A and it's easy to find the common denominator. Each has a top-of-the-line ace on the mound.
Top-ranked
Holly, the defending champion, is getting another stellar season from
Ricardo Juarez. The senior is 4-1 with a 2.23 ERA and has permitted only three hits over his last 12 innings.
No. 2
Eads and No. 3
Fleming each have a pitcher sporting a 0.00 ERA.
Steven Wilson (3-0) has done so for Eads and
Jaxon King (5-0) for Fleming. King has struck out 39 in just under 20 innings and has allowed only one unearned run.
Hitting-wise, three
Nucla players are among the top six on the RBI leaderboard. That includes leader
Sladen Hendrickson, who has produced 19. Hendrickson also leads the classification with four homers for the No. 5 Mustangs.
