Butler steamrolled West Charlotte, 80-20, in its season opener, serving notice that despite heavy losses to graduation, the defending 4AA champion may still be the team to beat in 2013. Sophomore running back
Benny LeMay – brother of former Butler and now University of Georgia quarterback Christian LeMay – had a spectacular starting debut with four rushing and two receiving touchdowns. Butler went 15-0 last season and beat Mallard Creek twice last season by a combined margin of 54-6.
