Big-time spring girls soccer action highlighted the weekend in the midwest, as Missouri and Illinois teams did battle in the 10th annual Parkway College Showcase just outside of St. Louis and the Pepsi Showdown completed its first of two weekends near Chicago.
Belleville West (Ill.) took the title in Fenton, Mo., by downing Kickapoo 2-0 at the Anheuser-Busch Center to win the title over 33 other teams from Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin at the Parkway College Showcase. According to the story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
MacKenzie Knepper scored in the first half and
Taylor Berutti assisted on a goal for
Cydney Robertson on a redirection goal.
Jessica Davis' shutout was the fifth of the season for her, according to the story, and that's in seven games this year for 5-1-1.
At the Pepsi Showdown in Schaumberg, Ill., the first weekend of games are complete and quarterfinal matchups are set to be played Thursday.
New Trier (Winnetka, Ill.), the top seed, will face No. 5
Lyons (LaGrange, Ill.) in the quarters. New Trier took out Elk Grove 2-1 in double overtime and Plainfield Central 1-0, while Lyons bested Joliet West 4-0 and Hersey 1-0.

Glenbrook South (Glenview, Ill.) is still alive thanks to wins against Fenwick 2-0 and Jacobs 3-0, and will take on No. 4
Huntley (Ill.), which bested Wheaton North 3-0 and Sycamore 3-0.
Loyola Academy (Wilmette, Ill.) got past Nazareth and No. 14 St. Viator behind a hat trick from Laura Gardner, according to the Daily Herald, and will duke it out against
Plainfield North (Ill.), which dispatched St. Ignatius 6-2 and Lincoln Way North 3-2.
The final matchup features No. 10
Lake Forest (Ill.) against No. 2
Metea Valley (Aurora, Ill.). Lake Forest beat Oak Park 1-0 and Wheaton Academy 2-0, while Metea Valley eliminated Lane 1-0 and York 2-1 in overtime.
Quarterfinal games are Thursday at home sites and the semifinals will be at Olympic Park in Schaumburg, Ill., on Saturday. The title match will be Sunday at Toyota Park.
