The campus and community of Clarksburg (Md.) are in mourning over the death of three student-athletes — all junior football players — who perished in a car accident approximately 12 hours before the school's graduation.
According to the Washington Post, Jacob Tyler Dennis, Patrick Andrew Shifflett and Cary Mauri'ce Greene were in a Ford F-250 pickup truck that was involved in the one-vehicle accident.
Police told the newspaper that the vehicle's speed was the cause of the accident, which occurred 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. No signs of alcohol were present, according to the report, and at least two of the victims were wearing seatbelts.
Clarksburg coach Larry Hurd Jr. told the newspaper that Jacob, Dennis and Andrew were "tremendous students and very talented football players. … I really loved all those boys. They're all workers, all a big part of our program. We'll all mourn together."
