The 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard traveled to Michigan to honor the
Cass Tech (Detroit, Mich.) boys football team.
After completing an undefeated season in the Detroit Public School League, the high-octane Technicians and reigning state champions, put together another championship run that culminated with an impressive 36-21 win over Novi Detroit Catholic Central. Additionally, the team finished ranked No. 14 in the country out of over 17,000 football programs by the MaxPreps computer poll!
Students, teachers and parents filed into the school's auditorium as the Cass Tech marching band generated great energy with their dynamic performance. The roars then led to a standing ovation, as Michigan Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Gryphon Dickerson presented Coach Wilcher and the team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy and a nationally ranked rafter banner. SSG Banner then shared a few words for all those in attendance.
"Courage, commitment and unity are just a few qualities that superior athletes, along with the men and women of the Michigan Army National Guard, have in common."
After quickly handing off the trophy to his team, Coach Wilcher stepped to the podium to thank the students, parents and administration for their support throughout the season. Wilcher explained that the team has represented their school and the city of Detroit in the right way. Not only on the football field, but in the classroom.
"This is a great day for us, for Cass Tech and for Detroit Public Schools," said Wilcher.
Following the presentation, the team was presented with commemorative MaxPreps Tour of Champions t-shirts as they posed for formal photos with the trophy, SSG Dickerson, school administrators and coaches.
MaxPreps and the Army National Guard congratulate Coach Wilcher and the Cass Technical Technicians and Detroit Public Schools on a great season, a state championship and a MaxPreps high national ranking!
