Dominic Dzioban kicked field goals of 46 and 48 yards and
A.J. Henning put things away with a 68-yard touchdown run as Lincoln-Way East finished off a perfect season with a 12-0 win over Warren Township in the 8A Illinois high school football state championship game on Saturday.
Lincoln-Way's defense allowed just 87 points all season while pitching its third shutout. The Griffins finished 14-0, while Warren Township finished 13-1.
In the 7A title game Saturday, Chicago Mt. Carmel finished off a 14-0 season with a 37-13 win over Nazareth Academy (13-1).
In Friday championship action,
Nick Legnaioli opened the game with a 14-yard touchdown run and started the second half with an 88-yard kickoff return for a score, lifting Richmond-Burton to a 50-14 4A win over Murphysboro/Elverado.
Dalton Wood also had touchdown runs of 2 and 5 yards and
Tyler Anderson added an 8-yard touchdown jaunt as the Rockets jumped to a 38-0 lead and never looked back.
In other championship game play, Williams scored in the final minute to pull out a wild 46-42 3A championship win over Byron.
Capitalizing on four turnovers, Newman Central Catholic beat Nashville 35-14 for the Class 2A title, while Lena-Winslow opened up a 50-12 halftime lead over Central A&M en route to a 58-20 win and Class 1A title.
Champions in 2018 were Forreston (1A), Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (2A), Monticello (3A), IC Catholic Prep (4A), Joliet Catholic (5A), Cary-Grove (6A), Nazareth Academy (7A) and Loyola Academy (8A).
