Eight Florida teams highlight the first MaxPreps National Small Schools Baseball Rankings of the year, but it's a team from New Jersey that holds down the top spot.
Pennsville Memorial is 13-0, based on information reported to MaxPreps, and holds down the No. 1 spot in the rankings, which are based on the
MaxPreps Computer Rankings. Pennsville is ranked No. 2 in the state of New Jersey, regardless of school size, by NJ.com. Nine of the Eagles' 14 wins have been by shutout this year.
Pennsville Memorial edges out a trio of Florida teams — Coral Springs Christian, Orangewood Christian, and The First Academy — for the top spot. The rankings were compiled prior to playoff games played in Florida this week. Orangewood Christian eliminated The First Academy from postseason play on Tuesday.
Teams that qualify for the small schools rankings are those that play in state high school enrollment divisions that are generally under 1,000 students. Rankings are based on available records for each team.
