The 10th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard did not have to travel far for the next football presentation.
Folsom High School, only down the road from MaxPreps headquarters, and their championship football team were recognized this year on the Football Tour of Champions, their second time on the Tour (2010).
The Folsom Bulldogs completed a perfect 16-0 season with a 68-7 victory over Oceanside to capture the CIF Division 1 championship. Over the past three seasons, Folsom boasts an impressive 44-2 record. In addition to their second state title this year, the Bulldogs were ranked No. 5 in the nation out of more than 16,000 high school football program by MaxPreps.
The Tour of Champions presentation took place in the gymnasium with players, students, faculty, parents, and local TV stations present. The ceremony kicked off with the Tour of Champions Congratulatory video followed by Chris Stonebraker, MaxPreps Personality, introducing the ceremony and commending the team on their successful season. After recounting several key victories for the Bulldogs, Chris then introduced Sergeant First Class Randall Connors of the California Army National Guard for the trophy presentation. SFC Connors congratulated the players and coaching staff on a tremendous season and also on the characteristic traits the players displayed throughout the year- hard work, dedication, commitment, and loyalty. SFC Connors related these traits to characteristics that are important in the Army National Guard. SFC Connors then presented Coach Richardson and Coach Taylor with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Andy Beal, President of MaxPreps, presented the team with their Nationally Ranked rafter banner. The crowd went wild as Coach Taylor raised the prestigious trophy in the air. Afterwards both coaches spoke to the crowd and thanked MaxPreps as well as the Army National Guard for the recognition.
After the ceremony, SFC Connors handed out commemorative Tour of Champions shirts and cinch bags to all the players on the team. Players as well as coaches took turns taking pictures with SFC Connors and the Minuteman trophy. KTXL and KCRA also interviewed the coaches and players regarding the honor and No. 5 national ranking.
Congratulations to Coach Richardson, Coach Taylor, and the Folsom football team on a great season and national ranking!
