The Mater Academy Charter Lions will square off against the Brito Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mater Academy Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Brito will be up against a hot Mater Academy Charter squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Lions came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Lowndes. The three-run effort marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Mater Academy Charter got a great performance from Steven Gonzalez as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Yodelkis Quevedo, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Brandon Lorenzo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Brito earned a 7-3 win over Schoolhouse Prep on Thursday. The Panthers have beaten the Wolfpack the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wolfpack has come to flipping the script.
Cristopher Guzman was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Brito is undefeated when Guzman posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Raivon Pinder, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Brito was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
The victory got Brito back to even at 3-3. As for Mater Academy Charter, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Mater Academy Charter hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Brito struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
