The Torrey Pines Falcons, ranked No. 1 in the San Diego Union-Tribune poll, defeated the No. 6 Poway Titans, 38-27, in a Palomar League game at Poway Friday, Oct. 13.

The Titans took a 20-7 lead on two, one-yard touchdown runs by Donnie McKillop, and field goals from 31 and 36 yards by Jared Relyea.

Later, Bill Bennett connected on a 32-yard field goal and Kyle Moffatt and Black Vanderwiel scored on touchdown runs of 6 and 16 yards, respectively, to give Torrey Pines a 24-20 lead.

McKillop answered back for Poway with a well-placed touchdown pass to John Hamilton from 19 yards out.

That was the exact moment Falcon fullback Pete Johnson took over, as he scored on two-consecutive touchdown runs, one from four yards out and the other from one yard out to set the final score.

Johnson finished with 21 carries for 90 yards for Torrey Pines, while Vanderweil was 8-for-21 for 112 yards and added 70 yards on 13 carries for the Falcons.

"I looked younger when this game started," Torrey Pines coach Ed Burke said. "They (the Titans) came out and played tough, physical football and were taking it to us."

McKillop finished 19-of-31 passing for 281 yards for Poway.ÿ

In other Palomar League action, Richard Caldwell finished with 130 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries as the host Rancho Bernardo Broncos defeated the Mt. Carmel Sundevils, 35-14.

Justin Morales completed 17-of-27 for 274 yards and a touchdown as the No. 2 Carlsbad Lancers played to a 10-10 tie with the visiting Oceanside Pirates in the Avocado League opener for both teams.ÿ Carlsbad's Troy Lauduski caught eight passes for 147 yards and a score for the Lancers.ÿ Meanwhile, Oceanside's Jeff Small rushed for 114 yards for the Pirates.

In Grossmont North League action, Ryan Lindley completed 12-of-17 passes for 159 yards as the No. 3 El Capitan Vaqueros defeated the host West Hills Wolf Pack, 13-6.ÿ The Wolf Pack's Raleigh Sevier galloped for 160 yards on 38 carries, while Chris Blumka added 64 yards and a touchdown on nine carries for West Hills.

Augie Williams rushed 24 times for 139 yards and four touchdowns as the host Grossmont Foothillers defeated the El Cajon Valley Braves, 45-7.

In Grossmont South League action, Eric Forney rolled up 206 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries as the No. 5 Helix Highlanders defeated the host Granite Hills Eagles, 43-14.ÿ Helix's Isaiah Sims collected 99 yards on six carries with two touchdowns for the Highlanders.

In Eastern League action, Kevin O'Mary finished 17-of-25 for 223 yards and two touchdowns as the Mira Mesa Marauders defeated the host St. Augustine Saints, 26-21.ÿ Mira Mesa's Jelani Burton gained 168 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries for the Marauders.

In Central League action, Ricardo Oberwager finished with 129 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries as the visiting Coronado Islanders blanked the Kearny Komets, 30-0.
