Matt Allan of
Seminole (Sanford, Fla.) is projected as the No. 16 pick overall and the first high school pitcher in June's MLB Draft. He's 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds and right-handed. According to
PerfectGame.org, his fastball tops out at 94 mph, but his best pitch is a curveball.
DeLand High School didn't need to be reminded of any of those facts last week, when Allan fired a perfect game with 17 strikeouts, leading Seminole to a 6-0 win in an elimination Class 9A District 2 semifinal game last week.
Allan, who has committed to the University of Florida, will be called back up to the mound Wednesday when the Seminoles play at Mandarin for a 7 p.m. regional quarterfinal game.

Watch the projected first-round MLB draft pick strike out all but four of the 21 batters he faced.
In his perfect game, according to the
Orlando Sentinel, Allan was asked beforehand how many runs he'd need for the Seminoles to win.
"Just give me one run, that's all I'll need," Allan told coach Kenne Brown.
Seminole scored one in the first and Allan did more than the rest, retiring all but four of the batters he faced by strikeout.
Brown told the Sentinel that Allan is more than a great pitcher: "Watching him go from where he was in the summer to where he is now has been a lot of fun, because he's enjoying leading our team in ways he probably never knew he could. He's a great teammate and the rest of the guys look up to him."
