Wooster (Reno) hired Vince Johnson as its football coach, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.
Johnson
was an assistant at Spanish Springs for the last four years. He
replaces Gray Levy, who was fired in November after declining to support
the school's desire to return the football program to Class 4A in 2012.
The
Colts played as an independent Class 3A team in 2010 and will do so
again this season. Wooster was ineligible for the playoffs and
postseason honors as a result of playing an independent schedule.
"I
am confident under Coach Johnson's leadership the Wooster High School
football program will flourish," Wooster principal Debra Biersdorff said
in a statement. "Coach Johnson brings not only considerable knowledge
and experience, but a positive and professional vision for the football
program. The Wooster community is very excited to welcome him."
THACKER TO WALK ON AT NEVADALowry (Winnemucca) lineman
William Thacker will try to walk on at Nevada next season, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Thacker, who was a 3A All-North pick the last two years, drew interest from Boise State, Indiana and UNLV. The 6-foot-2, 260-pound standout chose the Wolf Pack since it is close to home.
"I've been watching them since I was little," Thacker told the newspaper.
Thacker, who will play defensive tackle, is expected to redshirt next season.
