The high school football season in Iowa came to a close over the weekend with state championship games in seven classifications held at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
Harlan was among the victors with a 42-28 win over
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (Rock Valley) in the Class 3A state title game. That helped propel the Cyclones to the No. 1 ranking in the final Iowa MaxPreps Top 25.
Junior quarterback
Teagon Kasperbauer completed 20 of 27 pass attempts for 273 yards and two touchdowns in Harlan's championship game triumph. The Cyclones (13-0) averaged more than 50 points per game on the season and were involved in only three contests where the final margin was under 20 points.
Harlan brought home its 13th state championship but first since 2009.
