The state championship for Georgia's Class AAAAA belongs to
Harrison (Kennesaw, Ga.), and
Haley Pollock's goal was the clincher.
Not bad for a player who changed positions for the final two matches of the season.
Pollock is the National Girls Soccer Player of the Week presented by Playtex Sport after knocking in the only goal of the state title match. In the seventh minute the senior corralled a rebound off a shot that hit the post and poked it in to forge the only score of the contest. It was her third goal of the season and came from the attacking midfielder spot.
Her contributions this season weren't necessarily on the goal-scoring end. Coach Matthew Moody said that Harrison's 4-3-3 system requires the fullback to work hard on defense and push up like midfielders on offense, and that Pollock was integral in a defense that yielded five goals all year.
The three-year starter also had six assists this season in helping the Hoyas to the No. 3 spot in the
MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Girls Soccer Rankings.
