It's very rare that we see a state that is host to two of the top programs in the country...both from the very same city. That is the case with Saginaw, Michigan. However, on Thursday, April 19th, the MaxPreps Tour of Champions only honored one: the Saginaw High Trojans.
Held at an off-site banquet hall, coaches, family members and athletes gathered for a formal dinner to honor the basketball team. From personal experience, I can say that this was one of the more memorable Tour stops that we have had over the past couple of years. The evening kicked off with speeches and kind words from local dignitaries and school officials. There was no denying that the Saginaw community takes great pride in its students and numerous athletic achievements. After formal recognition from MaxPreps and generous gifts + trophy presentation from the Michigan Army National Guard, the ceremony shifted towards a highlight reel from the past season.
In all, Saginaw High was one of those stops that truly makes the Tour of Champions worth it. The people were enthusiastic, the team was appreciative, and all were grateful that their student-athletes were being recognized as one of the best teams in the entire country.
A very big congratulations goes out to Coach Lou Dawkins and Saginaw High School - our number 2 team on the MaxPreps National Rankings!
