Vermont’s four high school baseball championship games will be spread over four days beginning Friday night at Burlington’s Centennial Field.
This year’s matchups:
Division I: Seventh-seeded Hartford (14-5) vs. fourth-seeded Mount Anthony (15-4) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Division II: Second-seeded Lyndon Institute (17-0) vs. top-seeded Mount Abraham Union (16-3) on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Division III: Eighth-seeded Northfield (11-8) vs. second-seeded Leland & Gray (17-2) on Friday at 6 p.m.
Division IV: Second-seeded Black River (13-5) vs. top-seeded Blue Mountain (13-4) on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Hartford vs. Mount Anthony
• Mount Anthony trailed 3-1 entering the seventh inning of its semifinal game against top-seeded Essex, but advanced to the championship game by scoring seven runs in its final at-bat en route to an 8-5 victory.
The seven-run seventh was highlighted by a two-run double from Dylan Parmenter, and a three-run triple by Dan Krebs. Essex won last year’s Division I title.
• Hartford reached the championship game by beating No. 11 Mount Mansfield Union, 9-1. Pat Riley pitched a complete game and held MMU to two hits. He struck out four, walked one and hit a batter.
Ryan McGuire led the Hartford offense. McGuire collected three hits, scored twice and drove in three runs.
Lyndon vs. Mount Abraham
• The Division II matchup is the same as it was a year ago, when Mount Abraham beat Lyndon in the title contest.
Buddy Lamothe was the star of Lyndon’s 5-0 semifinal victory over Fair Haven. Lamothe struck out 13 and held Fair Haven to two hits.
Lyndon did all of its scoring in the fifth inning, when three Fair Haven errors led to five runs.
• Mount Abraham reached the title game for the fourth consecutive season by beating fourth-seeded Milton, 8-6, in the semis. The Eagles led 5-0 after two innings and 8-3 entering the seventh.
Ben Orvis struck out 11 and held Milton to one earned run in six innings to collect the win. Reliever Shawn Marcelle recorded the final two outs by strikeout. Marcelle also had three hits and drove in two runs.
Northfield vs. Leland & Gray
• Nick Skinas hit a two-run home run to help Northfield upset fourth-seeded Stowe, 4-2, in the semifinals.
Zach Daley added two hits for the Marauders.
• Leland & Gray, which won last year’s Division III championship, received a three-run home run from Tyler Russell and cruised to a 14-4 triumph over sixth-seeded Green Mountain in the other Division III semifinal.
Colin Nystrom and Gabe Pozzi each had two hits and two RBI for Leland & Gray.
Black River vs. Blue Mountain
• Bobby Rohrig collected two hits, including a two-run homer, to help Black River advance by beating third-seeded Proctor, 11-4, in the semifinals.
Kyle Ehlers and Chris Kowalski each had two hits for the Presidents. Black River starting pitcher Johnny Durgin recorded eight strikeouts. Black River will be seeking back-to-back Division IV titles.
•Charlie Jobin had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs to lead Blue Mountain to a 14-3 triumph over fifth-seeded Chelsea in the semifinals.
Joe Desroches added three hits for Black River, which also received two hits and three RBI from Dan Smith. Brandon Flood struck out seven to collect the win.
