The high school football season in Ohio came to a close over the weekend with champions crowned in six classifications after the Division I winner was determined the week prior. Archbishop Hoban was among the winners, taking home the trophy in Division II with a 35-6 win over Washington (Massillon).
That victory, coupled with its 11-0 record and tremendous play this season, makes Archbishop Hoban the 2020 MaxPreps Champion for the state of Ohio.
Senior quarterback
Shane Hamm accounted for all five touchdowns in the title game to help the Knights capture their fifth state title in six seasons. Archbishop Hoban has compiled a record of 79-5-1 during that span.
Senior running back
Victor Dawson also had a big game for Hoban, rushing for 145 yards in the triumph. The Knights controlled the game on both sides of the ball, holding the Tigers to 136 total yards and just 32 rushing yards on 28 carries.
In addition to titles in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and now 2020, the Akron power made state semifinal appearances in 2002 and 2008. The school opened in 1953.
The top-ranked team from the Buckeye State dominated its opponents this season by an average margin of victory of over 30 points per contest. Only one game decided by fewer than 14 points.
