Mason (5-10, 190) was named the Palm Beach Large School Offensive Player of the Year during his junior season and chose the Tigers after having offers from more than 19 FBS programs including Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Texas A&M.
With the departure of its best quarterback and running back, including Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton who left school for the NFL, Mason has the ability to keep the Tigers' ground game alive. Newton's departure will give Mason the chance to play early behind two of the nation's top young backs in Michael Dyer, a freshman who ran for 1,106 yards, and Onterio McCalebb, a sophomore who posted 850 yards last season.
"When I made my visit there I felt like I was at home," Mason told the Sun Sentinel. "I want to help this team win another national championship."
Known for his speed, Mason has the ability to do just that after totaling 3,103 yards and 46 touchdowns during his last two seasons at Park Vista. The standout back, who has been clocked as low as a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash, can pull away in the open field from most defensive backs and is also a great receiver coming out of the backfield.
Mason gives the Tigers their 21st commitment and joins fellow south Florida native Robenson Therezie of Miami Jackson High.
