See an amazing catch, and an early celebration on the base paths in a California game Buchanan completed an impressive Tri-River Athletic Conference run by taking two games from Clovis North, the only team to beat the Bears this year, and finish 14-1 in the conference based in central California.
The TRAC features some of the top teams in California, including Clovis, Clovis West and Clovis North, so that's one reason Buchanan's performance was enough to warrant a move up to the No. 2 spot in this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Another reason is Coppell's loss to Boyd (McKinney) in the second round of the Texas Class 6A state playoffs. The Cowboys came back to win the series, thanks in part to a no-hitter by Charles King, but the loss was enough to warrant a drop to No. 4 this week.
Stoneman Douglas moves up to the No. 3 spot after beating Jupiter in the Florida Class 9A state quarterfinals. The Eagles have a big matchup with No. 9 West Orange in the final.
Seven teams exited the Xcellent 50 this week, the most surprising of which was Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), which lost to Centennial (Las Vegas) in the Sunset Region final in Nevada. The Gaels, previously ranked No. 17, dropped out of this week's rankings after not advancing to the state tournament.
Seven new teams this week include Cypress Ranch (Texas), Dallas Jesuit (Texas), Saline (Mich.), Zionsville (Ind.), Serra (San Mateo, Calif.), Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) and Basic (Henderson, Nev.).
