Bosco, St. Peter's on a Collision Course
ÿ
With a few weeks left in the regular season, many are anticipating the inevitable showdown between Don Bosco Prep and St. Peter's Prep, the top-ranked teams, respectively, in the MaxPreps New Jersey rankings.
ÿ
Bosco, ranked No. 1 overall, has relied on a pro-style offense with a typical drop-back passer, while St. Peter's has benefited from its abundance of speed.
ÿ
Neither team has shown signs of slowing down, consistently defeating opponents by a 25-plus point margin.
ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ
Bosco (6-0) continued to roll over Bergen County opponents with a 41-0 win of Ridgewood. Junior Guy Germinario, receiving strong interest from Boston College, ran for two touchdowns. Kicker Brian Hanly booted two field goals, and quarterback Matt Simms tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Alexander DiSanzo.
ÿ
Bosco should have its strongest test in the past month when it hosts local rival St. Joseph's of Montvale. However, St. Joe's suffered an upset at the hands of Paramus Catholic, 27-24, its first victory over St. Joe's since 1994. Mitchell Bennett's fumble
recovery in the end zone gave Paramus Catholic the lead for good.
ÿ
St.Peter's keptÿ pace with a 52-0 trouncing of Dickinson - its 58th-consecutive victory over Hudson County opponents. With quarterback Will Hill sidelined, running back Sharif Harris picked up the slack as he rushed for 103 yards on just four carries and scored a touchdown.
ÿ
Quarterback Sean Boysen threw a pair of touchdown passes, a 36-yarder to Michael Clarke and a 10-yarder to Harris that gave the Prep a 31-0 second quarter lead. Harris has rushed for over 800 yards this season.
ÿ
Linebacker/fullback Will Thompson, bound for Boston College, scored on a five-yard touchdown run and recorded five tackles and two sacks. Linebacker Steve Pankiewicz also had a busy day with seven tackles, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble.
ÿ
Paramus Catholic on the Move
ÿ
Paramus Catholic continued to make its claim as one of the better teams in the northeast section of the state with victories over Teaneck, Bergen Catholic, and St. Joseph. In fact, Paramus Catholic (5-1) has moved to No. 6 overall in the MaxPreps New Jersey rankings.
ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ
Connor Smith scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 53 yards for Paramus Catholic.
St. Joe's quarterback Rob Cervini tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Kivlehan, and Ryan Dinnebiel and Chris Brown scored touchdown runs.
