"It was a long game for both sides and to be able to come out on top of
it was definitely a proud moment," Southwood head coach Ashley Albright
told the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate. "So many of my kids
don't pick up a ball until they get to high school. For them to be able
to string together a rally — the experience is a huge deal for them. I
can't be more proud of them and the five-plus hours that they put into
it."
The Southwood-Huntington box score is a treasure-trove full of nuggets.
Southwood's
Sa'Derrica Lars tossed 296 pitches over seven innings in the win. She walked 21 and struck out 11. Rosters weren't available for Huntington.
Five Huntington pitchers combined for 279 pitches, allowing 16 hits with 21 walks and eight punch outs.
"I wouldn’t say I feel accomplished, that was a long, long game, but I’m
excited to say that was one of my favorite games I’ve played," Patterson told the paper. "It was very competitive."
Southwood (4-13) put up 13 runs in the second, 16 in the fourth and nine in the final frame. The Cowboys were held scoreless in the fifth inning.
Huntington scored in every inning with two 11-run frames. They plated five runs three separate times.
Remarkably, the Southwood football team hasn't hit the 55-point mark on the gridiron since 2002 as noted by the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate.
Scoring isn't an issue for Southwood, which has put up 18, 29 and 34 runs in games this season. The 34 runs was against Huntington the last time the two schools met March 23.
