Capistrano Valley Christian extended the longest winning streak in San Joaquin this week by beating Animo Leadership, 49-12. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Santa Clarita Christian moved up to 827 from 855 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 25-6 win over Kilpatrick helped the Cardinals improve their standing.
Capistrano Valley Christian's dynamic duo of Riley Babick and Ben Sukut proved tough for the Aztec Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Babick threw for 182 yards and four touchdowns and Sukut had 100 yards receiving. AJ Discenzo helped Capistrano Valley Christian's passing attack out by catching three balls for 44 yards.
Jonathan Saavedra provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Santa Clarita Christian beat the Mustangs. He completed eight passes for 124 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 86 yards. Saavedra's favorite target this week was Jacob Nogle, who caught four passes for 96 yards.
Forrest Lohman was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 171 yards on six carries as Saddleback Valley Christian topped Animo Leadership. Michael Coppola also contributed to the rushing game with 133 yards on the ground.
The Eagles' Babick and Sukut have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading San Joaquin in both passing and receiving yards. Babick has thrown for 1220 yards this season, while Sukut, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 38 catches for 566 yards. Lohman from the Warriors leads the league in rushing with 819 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Saddleback Valley Christian takes on Capistrano Valley Christian. As it stands, Justin Reber's team is in fourth, while the Eagles are in first.
The Warriors led the league in scoring this week after putting up 66 points on Southlands Christian. Lohman caught three passes for 65 yards in the win.
