It was like any other half-time of a boy’s basketball game. But this night you could just tell there was something different in the air. Naperville North’s Jeff Farson got on the mike in a rolling thunder style voice, that of which was in tune to a professional announcer. He started the presentation off by introducing the Max Preps representative Kevin Patrowsky. Kevin came forward to congratulate the recipient of the Tour of Champions Award and went on to introduce LTC Redmon from the Army National Guard. There was a sudden calm among the crowd.
LTC Redmon and his men captivated the audience as he talked about the privilege of presenting such an award on behalf of the Army National Guard by recognizing a team who’s successes would not soon be forgotten.
A normal response would be that your own team and fans would generate the excitement of watching you receive a trophy for your hard work and dedication to the great sport of football, but in fact, that night both sets of fans from Naperville North and their rival stood on their feet and cheered for the Huskies! LTC Redmon went on to discuss the prestigious award and present Coach LarryMcKeon and his hard working team with the Tour of Champions Trophy.
The excitement was contagious as cheerleaders flipped &flopped, cheering the young men on! It was endearing to witness such enthusiasm and respect as Head Coach Larry McKeon came from among his team to receive the award on their behalf. The crowd listened closely as his comments were quick to recognize the fans, coaches and faculty for their support of the young men who worked so hard to accomplish their goals. The Naperville North Huskies were nationally ranked 23 overall with a season ending record of 12-1.
With a final cheer from the crowd, the team was whisked away to another area for pictures and an opportunity for each team player to touch, kiss or hold the trophy….. many of which were willing to do so! The evening finale was full of excitement the guardsmen threw outbundles of footballs and basketballs to the crowd with the logo of “Army National Guard”. What a night of expressing true pride and commitment from both a football team and the men and women who serve our country!
CONGRATULATIONS NAPERVILLE NORTH HUSKIES!!!!
