Lawyer Lilly was fouled by Faith Academy as time expired in the MLK Roundball Classic at the University of South Alabama's Mitchell Center Monday night and had two chances to break a 47-47 tie.
His first effort was an air ball – missing the backboard, rim, even the net. His second shot, however, was true and the Hornets won the contest as Baker (17-5) escaped with a 48-47 win. The contest was one of three played in the annual classic at USA in Mobile.
Both teams made five 3-point goals, nine 2-point goals. Faith made 14 and Baker made 15 free throws – the final shot by Lilly the difference in the closer-than-close contest.
