The high school football season in Virginia came to a close over the weekend.
Freedom (Woodbridge) was among the victors, beating James Madison 48-14 in the Class 6 state championship game. That victory helped propel the Eagles to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
Freedom captured its first title behind one of the nation's most high-powered offenses, averaging 63.4 points per game. Junior quarterback
Tristan Evans broke the state record for touchdown passes in a single season with 61. Sophomore running back
Jeff Overton ran for over 2,500 yards and 34 TDs.
The Freedom defense wasn't too bad either, limiting opponents to less than 10 points per game.
Highland Springs rode a dominant defense to the Class 5 title. The Springers shut out six opponents this season and held five others to seven points or less.
