The Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association and the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association announced their 2008 All-State football teams Sunday.
Heading the team offensively is player of the year Kyle Sullivan of St. Mark’s. The 5-foot-11, 178-pound senior helped lead the Spartans to an 8-4 record in a variety of ways.
On offense, Sullivan caught 18 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 182 yards and a score. At defensive back, he recorded 48 tackles and seven interceptions. But his biggest contribution may have come on special teams, where her averaged 39.1 yards per punt (dropping 9-of-28 inside the 20-yard line), forced 30 touchbacks as the kickoff specialist, piled up 832 yards on punt and kick returns and booted eight field goals and 40 point-after kicks.
Defensive player of the year honors went to Caesar Rodney’s Duron Harmon. The Rider defense was key in the school’s 11-1 record and first state championship since 1990.

Boys Basketball: Kappa Klassic Wrap-Up
Christiana defeated Sanford 72-67 in overtime this weekend to win the Fields Bracket of the Kappa Klassic tournament held at Caravel Academy.
Keith Wilson lifted the Vikings to a 5-point victory by shooting 6-of-12 from behind the arch and finishing with 26 points.
Christiana went up early on Sanford and held on to the lead until midway through the fourth quarter when Marques Hayman gave Sanford a 51-49 lead. Hayman went on to finish the night with 10 points.
The biggest key to the Vikings success was limiting Sanford’s top scorer Trevor Cooney to 13 points.
Caesar Rodney won the Bob Lewis Bracket and improved to 3-0 with a 72-61 win over Glasgow.
Glasgow earned a 21-16 halftime lead on CR thanks to impressive perimeter shooting by Will Townsville and Charles Burley.
The Riders were able to hang with the Dragons due mainly to Bernard Carter who hit 3 from behind the arch in the first half and finished the game with 19 points total.
CR’s Tyshaun Bell (16) came out firing in the fourth quarter, but so did Glasgow’s Martel Mccain (10).
The lead bounced back and forth, but eventually CR overpowered the Dragons by scoring on 12 consecutive possessions.
Girls Basketball: May Helps Delcastle Defeat St. E’s
Delcastle’s Jaquetta May went off with 23 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks against St. Elizabeth this weekend.
May’s effort was good enough to give Delcastle a 50-32 win over the Vikings and improve her team’s record to 2-2.
St. E’s fought hard and came close to taking the lead near halftime, but whenever the Vikings got close May would find a way to extend the lead.
This game marked the fourth consecutive out of conference game for Delcastle, while St. Elizabeth now sits at an even 1-1 on the season.
