On Monday, March 6th, 2017, MaxPreps left the southeast and headed to the southwest. The tour was focused on the Sooner State, specifically Edmond, Oklahoma to honor the
Edmond Memorial (Okla.) High School girls' volleyball team on a tremendous season and national ranking. As part of the 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its seventh year honoring girls' volleyball teams, Edmond Memorial held a trophy presentation at the school's pep assembly during their much anticipated fundraising week.
Edmond Memorial lost to Norman North, 3-1, on August 27th but the Bulldogs rallied from there and closed out the season with 28 consecutive victories topped by a 3-1 win over Norman North to capture the Oklahoma 6A state championship. It was the school's first title since the 2010 season and their fifth overall. MaxPreps ranked the Bulldogs No. 70 nationally, out of more than 20,000 high school varsity volleyball teams according to the MaxPreps computer rankings. Additionally, Edmond Memorial was one of only 10 volleyball teams in the country to receive this prestigious trophy.

In front of a packed gymnasium full of students, MaxPreps representative Jeremy Tims began the ceremony. Jeremy spoke of the team's on-field accomplishments both locally in Oklahoma and then nationwide. Jeremy also stressed "that this day would not be possible without two things: the Army National Guard defending our country and the volleyball team exemplifying the traits of the Army National Guard in order to achieve their goals this past season." The nationally ranked banner as well as the prestigious Army National Guard ranking trophy was presented to Head Coach Natalie Murray. The trophy consists of a "Minuteman" statue symbolizing discipline, hard work, dedication, readiness and a commitment to excellence, characteristics the Army National Guard strives for. Coach Murray was very appreciative in receiving this prestigious award. After the trophy presentation, pictures and interviews were performed with the players and coaches.
Congratulations Coach Murray and the Bulldogs on your memorable championship season! We look forward to many more!
