Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Malcolm Bussey of
St. Paul's (Concord) is the 2020 MaxPreps New Hampshire High School Football Player of the Year. In a season limited to three games due to the pandemic, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound senior running back piled up 628 yards and 12 touchdowns on just 54 carries (11.6 yards per carry). Included in that output were 200-yard rushing performances against New Hampton School and Proctor Academy.
During his three years in the program, Bussey helped St. Paul's go 20-0 with league titles in 2018 and 2019. As a junior, he ran for 1,436 yards and 22 touchdowns in nine contests. A native of Nova Scotia, he finished his run in Concord with 2,927 yards and 45 touchdowns.
Yale and Valparaiso are among the college football programs that have extended offers.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
