Star Senior Pursuing His Dream

Where are they going? It is time to start a new school year and it is now time for the former seniors to go on and play for their college teams. The Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) High School Basketball Team has many players that are going on and pursuing their dreams and playing at the next level.

Mason Smith is a 6'5", 185 pound terrific athlete. He was the sixth man on the Lone Peak 2010-11 State Championship Team. Smith has been a great contributor to the Knights roster for the past three years and now his hard work has paid off, earning him a spot on the Western Nebraska Cougars basketball team.

Smith will be departing from his home in Alpine, Utah in the middle of August and will start his training with his new team. This kid has shown that he has the talent that is required to play at the next level and he will continue to show it throughout his stay in the great state of Nebraska.

The Knights athletes have various pre-game rituals and Mason Smith has some of his own. He says, "Before the game I do the usual, like jump rope, I also was given some socks by TJ Haws after our only loss of the season at Viewmont High School, and I wore them every game for the rest of the season and we never lost. Oh yeah and we ate gummy bears before every game."

Lone Peak High School has an athletic program that is one of, if not the top one, in the whole state of Utah. The boy's golf, basketball and the girl's volleyball all won three state championships this year. These three sports have tremendous athletes, but that is not the only reason that they are victorious, it is also the remarkable coaches.

Quincy Lewis, the boy's basketball coach, has shown throughout the years that he is the best coach in the state of Utah and one of the best coaches in the nation. From the 05-06 season until now, Coach Lewis has earned his team a record of 118-26, which is the best in all of Utah. Smith says, "The best part about playing for Quincy Lewis was the way that he coached and the way that he would always put us in a position that we can win."

Mason Smith will be on the roster at Western Nebraska JC next year, showing some Lone Peak talent in the Midwest. Smith says, "Hard work pays off, conditioning is worth it, and Time=Benefits."
