Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Drew Allar of
Medina (Ohio) is the 2021 MaxPreps Ohio High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-5, 230-pound quarterback led the Battling Bees to a 13-1 record and a berth in the Ohio Division I quarterfinals where they fell to St. Edward (Lakewood).
The Penn State commit completed 305-of-509 passes for 4,444 yards and 48 touchdowns for Medina. Allar is rated as the No. 1 quarterback in the nation by 247 Sports and the No. 3 player overall.
In his career, Allar passed for 9,103 yards and 97 touchdowns. Allar's single season total ranks No. 14 in state history, just ahead of Joe Burrow of Athens (The Plains) who had 4,437. His career totals ranks No. 17 all-time, just behind former Mentor quarterback Mitch Trubisky (9,126 yards).
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in early January.
