Head coach: Jesus Patino
The Spartans have won five state titles in nine finals appearances since the 1999-2000 season. White Station will be a heavy favorite to make it six this season with a star-studded cast that includes
LeRon Black (6-8, Sr., F, Illinois verbal commitment),
Chris Chiozza (6-0, Sr., G, Florida),
Davell Roby (6-5, Sr., G/F, Saint Louis) and
Nych Smith (5-11, Jr., G).
2. Hamilton (Memphis)2012-13 record: 14-10
Head coach: Keelon Lawson
The Wildcats didn't have a single senior on the roster a year ago and return two of the most promising young prospects in America. Coach's kids
K.J. (6-6, Jr., G/F, Memphis verbal commitment) and
Dedric Lawson (6-7, So., G/F) should help Hamilton challenge for city supremacy.
3. Melrose (Memphis)2012-13 record: 19-11
Head coach: Jermaine Johnson
The Golden Wildcats could be inching toward getting back to the Adonis Thomas-Chris Jones glory days of a few years back.
Marlon Hunter (6-3, Jr., G),
Jemerrio Jones (6-6, Sr., G/F) and
Donte Fitzpatrick (6-5, Jr., G/F) were all double-figure scorers in 2012-13.
4. Christ Presbyterian Academy (Nashville)2012-13 record: 37-2, Class AA state champions
Head coach: Drew Maddux
A budding powerhouse under Maddux, the Lions aren't going away despite being dealt a tough blow with departure of Jalen Lindsey to Huntington Prep in West Virginia.
5. Ensworth (Nashville)2012-13 record: 23-8, Division II-AA state champions
Head coach: Ricky Bowers
Corn Elder (now playing football at Miami) was special for the Tigers, but junior guard
Andrew Fleming will be too. Fleming, a 6-4 guard, already has offers from Florida, Memphis and Vanderbilt.
