As the MaxPreps travel team arrived on campus, the students were calmly mingling with one another while browsing through the makeshift school store that was set up outside the entrance to the gym — all eager to purchase Eagles spirit wear. Sergeant Vincent DeNome and MaxPreps representative Tracey McFadden were greeted by Valor Athletic Director Jamie Heiner who expressed his thanks for the recognition.
Valor students and families filled the gym during the boys varsity basketball game. To kick off the halftime celebration the public address announcer introduced MaxPreps representative Tracey McFadden.
McFadden explained the selection process for the Tour of Champions and why the Eagles were being honored. She cited their incredible 29-26 win over Pomona of Arvada to clinch their sixth CHSSA 5A State Championship as well as their impressive No. 100 MaxPreps national ranking out of nearly 17,000 teams. Next, she introduced Sergeant DeNome from the Colorado Army National Guard.
SGT DeNome called Coach Rod Sherman and the football team onto the court for their well-deserved recognition from the crowd. After commending the team for their determination, dedication and perseverance throughout the season, he presented Coach Sherman and the team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Coach Sherman and his team graciously accepted the Minuteman trophy amidst the thunderous applause from the crowd.
Congratulations to the Eagles for another amazing season and high national ranking!
