California Top 25 high school football scores: No. 1 Mater Dei and No. 2 St. John Bosco both win big

The top-rated team in California had no problem against No. 14 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) as No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) improved to 4-0 after beating the Eagles 49-13. The Monarchs jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to three touchdown passes from freshman quarterback Elijah Brown.

Oklahoma-bound running back Raleek Brown scored two touchdowns on the night and up next for Mater Dei is No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) on April 17 at Santa Ana Stadium.

The Braves shutout Orange Lutheran (Orange) 55-0 setting up a showdown of the top-two teams in the state. The last time these two powerhouse programs played was in the 2019 CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship and DJ Uiagalelei led St. John Bosco to a 39-34 win after trailing 28-5 in the first half. He finished the night with 446 yards passing and five touchdowns.

The other Top 25 showdown on Friday featured the top-two teams in San Diego and it was a one-sided affair as No. 9 Cathedral Catholic shutout No. 22 Lincoln 41-0. The Dons have outscored their first four opponents 172-14 this spring.

Fresno State-bound quarterback Jaylen Henderson led Chaminade (West Hills) to its third consecutive victory after beating No. 8 Alemany (Mission Hills) 34-27. He completed 15-of-20 passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 111 yards and another score. Expect to see the Eagles jump into the Top 25 in next week's rankings and they close out the season against Cathedral (Los Angeles) on April 16.

The loss for the Warriors was the first of the spring as they dropped to 3-1. Up next is five-star Texas commit Maalik Murphy and No. 23 Serra (Gardena) who beat Bishop Amat (La Puente) 38-17. The Cavaliers have won four in a row since a season-opening loss to No. 12 Long Beach Poly (Long Beach).

No. 5 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) recorded its fourth consecutive shutout after blanking Upland 37-0. The Trailblazers have outscored their last four opponents 177-0 since a season-opening loss against No. 2 St. John Bosco.  

The best game over the weekend was in Huntington Beach as No. 24 Edison needed five overtimes to knock off Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 44-41. Senior quarterback Braeden Boyles connected with PJ Campbell for the game-winning score after the Sea Kings made a field goal to take a 41-38 lead.
