See the Creighton Prep player in action last season. As Omaha Central was first asserting itself as a dominant force during the past decade, the Eagles finished a very good 138th nationally in the MaxPreps National Boys Basketball Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard following the 2006-07 boys basketball season. Then, in 2008, Omaha Central climbed into the Top 50 at No. 42.
By the time Omaha Central had won its sixth Class A state championship in seven years in 2013, the Eagles climbed all the way into the Top 10 at No. 8 – their highest ranking during a dynasty run.
Of course, with that kind of notoriety nationally, Omaha Central is an easy pick as Nebraska's most dominant boys basketball program since 2006-07. And the numbers back up that assertion.
Besides winning six Nebraska big school state championships over the past 10 basketball seasons, the Eagles found a home in MaxPreps' Nebraska Top 25 basketball rankings following each of those seasons, and finished No. 1 at the conclusion of all six state championship campaigns.
Fellow Cornhusker State power Omaha Creighton Prep, the only other school to finish in the Top 25 in each of the past 10 seasons, winds up second in this week's Top 10 after claiming two Class A state basketball titles since 2007. Class C power Hastings St. Cecilia rounds out the top three by winning three Class C1 state titles and a couple more in the C2 ranks during the same time frame.
MaxPreps has developed its own system in determining which boys basketball programs compete at the highest level over an extended period of time. Here is how the points for this week's Top 10 were accumulated:
1. 20 points for a state title
2. 10 points for finishing as a state runner-up
3. Other points are based on a team's Top 25 standing in the final MaxPreps Nebraska Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. For instance, if a school claimed the top spot, it received 25 points, while a No. 25 ranking is good for one point.
