It has been a challenging season for
Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.), which fell to 0-5 after Champagnat Catholic came from behind on Friday to pull out the victory.
However, a bright spot for the team has been senior defensive tackle
Khairi Clark. A mountain of a young man at 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, Clark is one of the nation's top defensive tackles.
His intimidating look can be a bit deceiving, according to his mother Uwezo Ross.
"A lot of people say he has this look, this mean look, but he's a very caring, very affectionate kid," Ross
told the Miami Herald in August. "He was such a nice kid in Optimist football he used to knock people down and then go pick them up."
Years later, Clark no longer picks up opponents during plays, but he certainly still knocks them down.
His aggressive play — coupled with his size — make him a coveted recruit, as well as a U.S. Army All-American.
Spurning the
247Sports Crystal Ball that had him as a stone cold lock (100%) to Miami, Clark shocked many in the recruiting world when he gave a verbal commitment to Florida in June.
Clark is ranked the No. 19 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 244 recruit overall according to 247Sports.
He and his teammates will look to get into the win column when it takes on Northeast (1-5) on Friday.
