Catholic Central (Lansing, Mich.) senior quarterback
Cooper Rush set four state records Friday night during a 61-13 rout of Dowagiac (Mich.), according to the Lansing State Journal. It marked the 12-0 Cougars' first Division 5 regional championship since 1987.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder, who played just one series in the second half, completed 26 of 29 passes for 549 yards and eight touchdowns. His state records included 21 consecutive completions, eight touchdown passes in a single game, five touchdown passes in a quarter and seven touchdown passes in one half.
His 549 passing yards were eight short of the state record.
The Central Michigan University recruit completed 10 passes to
Matt MacKsood for 303 yards and four touchdowns.
Coach Jim Ahern told the State Journal, "He's a very special player. He's got great composure and sees everything on the field. He's a great kid and a great athlete and we're blessed to have him on our team."
