Callaway's Daeshun Ruffin captured 2019-20 Suddenlink Mississippi Player of the Year honors after a terrific junior season that saw the 5-foot-9 guard average 26.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.9 steals per contest.
He guided Callaway to the MHSAA Class 5A state title, averaging 27.5 points, 3.3 steals and three assists per game through four state tournament games. Ruffin produced 33 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists in the Chargers 78-62 victory over Center Hill (Olive Branch) in the state title game.
Ruffin scored 30 or more points 11 times this season, with a season-high of 40 points in a 102-51 win over Ridgeland on Jan. 14.
He led Callaway to a 25-5 record this season, winning the program's seventh state title in the past twelve years.
According to 247Sports, Ruffin is ranked No. 39 in the class of 2021 and has seven offers including Auburn, Mississippi, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, Houston and Southern Miss.
