The high school football season in Alabama came to a close over the weekend.
Thompson (Alabaster) was among the winners, knocking off
Auburn 49-24 in the Class 7A state championship game. That victory helped propel the Warriors to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
With eighth-grader
Trent Seaborn starting at quarterback, Thompson (11-3) won its fourth consecutive state title over Auburn, which finished No. 2 in the state. Seaborn threw five touchdowns in the final, four of which were to senior wide receiver
Korbyn Williams.
Anchored by five-star seniors
Tony Mitchell (Alabama) and Alabama MaxPreps Player of the Year
Peter Woods (Clemson), the Warriors won 11 of their final 12 games this season.
Coming in at No. 3 was
Saraland (15-1), which won the Class 6A title over No. 6
Mountain Brook (Birmingham) 38-17. Five-star sophomore Alabama commit
Ryan Williams accumulated 263 total yards, rushed for three touchdowns and caught another as the Spartans won the first state crown in school history. On the season Williams had 42 total touchdowns.
